Respite Care

Try to imagine, if you haven’t actually experienced, being the primary caregiver for a house bound elderly or disabled loved one.

And then imagine having someone come into your home and stay with that loved one while you take a few hours to yourself . . . a much needed break.

  • These hours can be used for shopping perhaps or taking in a movie.  A wonderfully refreshing break indeed to do my homework!

Volunteer sitters provide a few hours of free time to Caregivers of chronically ill persons.

Equipment Loan

The Shepherd’s Center offers the loan of the following equipment free of charge:

  • Wheelchairs
  • Bedside toilets
  • Canes
  • Crutches
  • Walkers
  • Hospital beds
  • Various other appliances

These items may be picked up between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at The Shepherd’s Center.

Transporation

One of our most difficult challenges, as we grow older, is no longer being able to drive our own car.  It is a dreadful blow to our sense of independence.

Many times, we wonder if we will be able to remain in our homes without being able to drive.

The Shepherd’s Center’s Transportation Volunteers provide transportation and tutor help for medical appointments in Winston-Salem, Greensboro, High Point, and for any destination in Kernersville.

Service recipients must live within a 7-mile radius of downtown Kernersville and be disabled and/or 60 years of age or older.

Volunteer schedulers are available Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM.  Requests for transportation should be made during those hours.
